Wave Modifiers are certain mini-events that can occur randomly whenever the player starts a new wave (excluding boss waves). Though the chance to get a random wave modifier is rare- being about a 10% chance (base chance).
The player can increase their chances of getting a wave modifier each wave based on their current Curse statistic for that run.
While most wave modifiers aim to hinder the player's power for that specific wave, there are some wave modifiers that can potentially benefit the player. More information about each wave modifier can be found below:

"This place feels extra dangerous..." | 4 small explosive trap barrels are spawned randomly around the floor. Unlike the Summon: Explosive Barrel spell, these trap barrels will blow up if the player gets near them- similar to the barrels found in the Spell Forge. |

"This place feels extra safe..." | 3 pools of regeneration and ambrosia will spawn around the floor. These pools will last until the player starts the next wave. |

"A permanent darkness lingers around this room..." | The player is afflicted with the darkness debuff until the next wave. Certain spells such as Add Candle and Purifying Powder will not remove the darkness effect on the player. |

"You hear the sounds of coins echo around the room..." | At the start of the wave, shillings will spawn all around the player each second. These shillings will only be alive for 2 seconds before quickly despawning. The player can take advantage of this modifier by collecting as much shillings as they want before starting the next wave. Certain spells such as Vacuum Field and Personal Vacuum will help collect the raining shillings much easier. |

"The air feels a lot lighter in this room..." | The player is afflicted with a slow falling and low gravity buff. This modifier will only effect the player and not enemies and allies. |

"Your magic begins to fizzle out in this room..." | The player's magical bolts will occasionally fizzle out and turn into dust similar to that of the Null spell. Multiple bolts can be fizzled out at once. |

"Somebody forgot to clean up in here..." | A random assortment of alchemical liquids will spawn around the floor. Some of these liquids include blood, oil, water, whiskey, slime etc. These liquids are taken from the Basic Loot Table of flasks. |

"This area is infested!" | 20 baby spiders will spawn randomly around the floor. These spiders can crawl up walls will deal the same amount of damage as a normal enemy, and can proc most of the player's spells. |

"A freezing gust of wind surrounds this area..." | The player is afflicted with a slowness and mining fatigue debuff. This modifier will only effect the player and not enemies and allies. The mining fatigue debuff reduces the player's melee speed by about 60%. |

"The smell of embers fills your lungs..." | Small lava geysers will spawn around the player until the start of the next wave- similar to the Lava Geyser spell. The geysers spawned will damage the player if they are caught inside it. Additionally, whenever an enemy is slain, they leave behind a burst of fire which ignites all nearby enemies. |

"Corpses around you are pulsating and writhing..." | Enemies that are slain during the wave have a chance of leaving behind a small blood pool, spawning a leech enemy, or firing out 4 blood bullets in all cardinal directions which will damage the player if struck. |
